The second movie shows Gru taking on the role of being a dad to the three, sweet girls he adopted in the first movie. He throws a princess birthday party and even dresses up as a fairy princess. As the story progresses, Gru realizes his daughters are lacking a mother in their lives and by the end of the movie (spoiler alert!) he marries. I like how the movie portrays traditional family values of a mother-father home. It shows the soft side of a man who is overly protective of his daughters and panics at the first mention of the word "date." It is always nice when popular media teaches good values.
I love that movie! I never thought about the family values that are portrayed in it. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteThis movie was great! I love the message of family as well. My nephew loves both movies and I am glad to see positive things in media.

ReplyDeleteI realized after posting my first comment of how much I enjoyed the movie that even though I loved the movie and loved the message of family, marriage and good fathers, there was one part of the movie that I wish was a deleted scene. I was thinking about the movie and realized, "Wasn't that the movie that had a naked minon running down the beach?" I have been noticing that more and more children's movies are including either naked backsides of children, animals, or monsters etc. Where are they going with all of this? Is there a purpose in putting it in such a fun family oriented movie?
DeleteGreat analysis! I love this movie. I didn't really think about any of this before. I always knew that it made me feel good and I was entertained, but now that I think about it, I feel good because it rings true to me! It's nice to have a movie where you don't shift uncomfortably in your chair. It's good, quality, family entertainment.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this movie as well. I felt the same as you, Diana, about the naked minion. I rolled my eyes as my daughter asked, "Is that not modest?" I had to answer yes, it is not modest. It's kind of too bad about that part, but overall it was a really great movie and I liked it a lot.
ReplyDeleteI haven't yet seen Despicable Me 2, but you've put it on my radar. By what you've shared, it sounds like a great option for our group project; I'm guessing this is a large part of why you thought of the wonderful idea of looking at parenting in animated films. =D
ReplyDelete(Thank you much for coming up with the idea!)
